Dr. Lawrence Kessler is an Optometrist serving Champaign, IL and surrounding communities.

Dr. Kessler was born in New York, but spent most his life in south Florida. Kessler graduated with a degree in Psychology from University of Miami, and went on to obtain several other degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Visual Sciences in 1973 from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, and a Doctorate of Optometry in 1975. He also received post doctoral training in pharmacology from Illinois College of Optometry, in Medical Management of Eye Diseases from I.C.O., and in Low Vision from the Lighthouse of New York.

Kessler is a member of the National Eye Research Foundation, American Optometric Association, and the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists. In addition, he is an associate of Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago, and worked with Glasses Ltd. as well. He is a long time local in Champaign, Illinois, having been practicing optometry here for the last 17 years, and specializing in Contact Lenses, Computer Vision Syndrome, Dry Eye Syndrome, and Ocular Nutrition.

When Dr. Kessler is not working, he enjoys several extracurricular activities, including physical fitness, skiing, cycling, and tennis. He is a member of Prairie Cycle Club, and has ridden RAGBRAI the last 7 years. In addition, Kessler has performed with Champaign Urbana Ballet, as part of their Nutcracker show for 6 years, and Coppelia in 2008.

“I feel fortunate to have been a part of the profession of Optometry for over 33 years. In the beginning of my training, functional vision problems and their correction were emphasized. This has given me insight into problems with children’s developmental vision problems, athlete’s vision problems and solutions, and now, more than ever, computer vision problems (I specialize in the diagnosis and correction for Computer Vision Syndrome, a problem in the workplace more prevalent than Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).

Optometry has evolved so that I have had state of the art medical training for diagnosing and treating the full sphere of eye diseases. I also include nutritional advice to my patients so that they may maintain clear, healthy eyesight.

And, finally, technology has improved so incredibly fast, that I am now able to more precisely diagnose eye diseases, evaluate vision problems, and create sophisticated computer assisted designs for contact lenses, mutifocal contact lenses, and state of the art spectacle lenses.

Practicing Optometry has never been so gratifying!”
